How To Deal With Trolls Now That Youve Gone Viral

How to Deal with Trolls Now That You’ve Gone Viral Image by Johnny Silvercloud via Flickr. Some rights reserved. https://bit.ly/2Gfznjz Some people prefer to stay private, and I can’t blame them; putting yourself out there makes you a target for hateful, argumentative people. And it’s 100x worse now to be visible and on social media than it was in the 2000s. The climate online can be downright toxic. That might legitimately stop you from using social media at all, let alone promoting yourself. I know that I and probably many, many other branding experts and coaches are advising you to promote your thought leadership and expertise and to find ways to demonstrate your value online, but I also know that if you do that, the possibility exists that you may have to deal other people’s opinions about what you write, and that can be friendly and adult-like in nature or it can be downright uncivil. Why would someone subject themselves to that? Well, for any of the following reasons (and you may have your own â€" please share!): 1)         You have a mission. There is some big change you would like to contribute to and it requires sharing information that is new, in opposition to a dominant paradigm, and/or potentially scary, but the few that you reach are worth the potentially many who will protest and the high emotional fall-out. 2)         There is something you learned that can save many from pain and/or loss. 3)         You intend to be or are a speaker, thought leader, and expert who is sought out by others, and the desire to put your career on autopilot is worth dealing with others’ comments 4)         You are able to focus on the good that can come from it, and the people with whom you will resonate and connect.   5)         The potential for income that can generate from online activity is worth it. Like anything, the payoff has to exceed the pain or price. If you have a friendly worldview, then the payoff is the people. You will love hearing from people and watching them engage in your content. You’ll naturally want to engage back with those who are friendly, but avoid those who are negative. If you don’t, you will dread comments. You may be more apt to respond to and focus on the trolls than the people who were receptive to your content. You could be in between, which is a balance worth achieving if you’re going to put yourself out there. I have enjoyed several articles and a couple videos going viral, and have responded to various kinds of comments from grateful, to creepy, to friendly oppositions, to personal insults, to death threats. Below are some policies I follow because they tend to enable me to continue enjoying sharing content with the world, even if it is a world divided: You could say trolls are generally naysayers, small-minded thinkers, resistant and stubborn, miserable and just wanting to spread their misery to others. Or you could accept that trolls are in some pain and need an outlet. Social media makes for easy targets. Hurt people hurt people.   One way to disarm a troll is actually to show them compassion.   I love the story of comedienne Sarah Silverman changing the worldview of the man who tried to troll her. I may not always feel like I have the emotional fortitude to go down the rabbit hole with someone trying to spew negativity. I also haven’t got time for the pain. I could really let it get to me, but I spent far too many years letting what other people thought of me bring me down. I sometimes have to decide I’m better off not letting it in. At other times, I feel invincible and impervious to letting other people bring me down. I’ll do what I can to help other people feel that good. By all means, I resist the temptation to vilify someone else. Attempting to make someone else look bad doesn’t align with who I really want to be, and it just makes me look and feel worse.   You may or may not be able to change some people’s minds, but you won’t change everyone’s mind. Know when to pull back your energy from the effort of defending who you are or what you think or feel. Consider re-applying that energy. If you let trolls silence you, you are giving them that power. Far too many solutions are stifled by the fear of what others might think of them.   Nothing worth inventing was ever unanimously supported. You don’t need everyone to like you, and you don’t need everyone to “get it.”  If you’re going to leverage social media, it’s better to accept that not everyone will like you. Social media may close the gap between you and people you wouldn’t want to know, but it also opens you up to the people and resources that can actually help you put your brilliance to work toward a meaningful contribution.   Ultimately, if you choose to receive the benefits of the visibility a viral social media post or video can give you, there are ways to manage trolls. Social media has the potential to make us or break us. Know what you want, and determine what you’re willing to endure to get it.     If you do decide to share, you are taking on the responsibility of the responses it generates. Use these best practices: The official Big Time video. Directed by Stephen R. Johnson. The fourth single to be taken from Peter’s fifth studio album. The album was his first one to have a proper title and So was a watershed release in his career.

Think Up, Down and Sideways

Brainstorm, Down and Sideways Brainstorm, Down and Sideways Brainstorm, Down and Sideways February 9, 2010 via Career Coach Sherri Thomas 1 Comment With regards to landing your next position you have to consider some fresh possibilities. The greatest misstep work chasing experts make is searching for a situation with precisely the same employment title they had in their last occupation. To build your openings for work, consider taking a gander at littler organizations and going one-level up (for example from an administrator to a Director), just as bigger organizations and going one-level down (from a Director to a supervisor.) Need considerably more openings for work? At that point begin thinking sideways. Some organizations don't expect you to have industry experience, just skill in a particular activity work. So in the event that you've been in deals, fund, designing, or organization in a particular industry, (for example, human services, innovative, or development), begin going after those equivalent position jobs in different ventures. For instance, in the wake of working in a publicizing office, I looked for my next vocation move and included associations that had in-house promoting, advertising and interchanges offices. In under 60 days, I was employed as a Regional Marketing Manager at a Fortune 500 organization in an industry that was totally new to me! Likewise, it's not obligatory that you meet 100-percent of the prerequisites part of the set of working responsibilities. Indeed, I just met around 50-75% of the activity necessities each time I rethought my vocation! My mysteries? Concentrating on transferable aptitudes, energy and certainty! A decent general guideline is to have at any rate 75-percent of the abilities and experience required, and express in your introductory letter and meetings that you're a snappy student, adaptable, and energetic about the position and the organization! For more vocation methodologies, or to get customized procedures dependent on your one of a kind profession circumstance, difficulties and objectives visit my vocation training website page.

Become a Certified Professional C++ is a very versatile programming language and it has various object oriented programming features. In this article we would learning how to implement Encapsulation In C++. Following pointers will be covered in this article,Encapsulation In C++What Is Encapsulation?Access SpecifiersTypes Of EncapsulationSample ProgramSo let us get started the,Encapsulation In C++When all the data members and member functions are combined in a single unit called class, this process is called Encapsulation. In other words, wrapping the data together and the functions that manipulate them.ExampleIn a company, two software projects are going on with two different teams. One team requires data from the other team. But this team cannot access the data from the other team because they do not have the appropriate permissions. This is Encapsulation.Encapsulation also leads to data hiding or abstraction.Moving on with this Encapsulation in C++ article,Access SpecifiersWe can implement encapsulation by using access specifiers. They give the programmer the control on what data or functions are to be made visible to the user and what is kept a secret. There are three main access specifiers,PrivatePublicProtectedEach of these access specifiers is used to implement Encapsulation. By default, all data members and member function are made private by the compiler.Private Access SpecifiersWhen data member or member functions are made private, it can only be accessed inside the class and no one outside the class can access it. When it is accessed by any object outside the class, then an error is generated.During inheritance, all the private members cannot be directly accessed in the derived class.Public Access SpecifiersWhen data member or member functions are made public, it can be accessed by everyone. Even the other classes can access the public data members or member functionsProtected Access SpecifiersProtected Access Specifier is a special kind of access specifier. When data member or member functions are made protected, it works in a similar way to private and it can be accessed to members of the class. It can also be accessed from any subclasses of the class.Moving on with this Encapsulation in C++ article,Types Of EncapsulationThere are three types of encapsulations:Member Variable EncapsulationIn this type of encapsulation, all the data members are declared as private.Function EncapsulationIn this type of encapsulation, some of the member functions are declared as private. The constructor is public.Class EncapsulationIn this type of encapsulation, all a class is declared as private. This is mostly done during nested classes.Moving on with this Encapsulation in C++ article, we will see an Encapsulation Demo.Sample Program #includeiostream using namespace std; class test { private: int x; public: test(int a) { x =a; } int get() { return x; } }; int main() { test a(7); coutThe Number is: a.get(); return 0; } OutputExplanationIn the above program, we show the concept of encapsulation. We have a private member x which cannot be accessed from the main function. The only way to access it is by creating a object of class test. There is a parameterized constructor, which assigns the value we get from main to x. We have a get method, that returns the value of x. Inside the main function, we create an object of test class and assign a parameter. This moment the parameterized constructor is called, and it assigns the parameter value to x.We have a cout statement that calls the get function and the number is displayed. This is the basic concept of encapsulation. With this we come to the end of this blog on Encapsulation In C++. Tell Me A Little About Yourself

Tell Me A Little About Yourself You have landed the interview for your dream job. Now, it’s time to prepare for the interview itself. What kind of questions are they going to ask? This is one of the things you should really ponder prior to walking through the business door on the date of your interview. No matter the type of business, industry, geographic location of the company, or the interviewer’s experience level, one statement is bound to arise: Tell me a little about yourself. This is likely the first thing that is said as you sit down behind the conference room table. This statement should be easily answered, shouldn’t it? Well, maybe. Or maybe not. Prior to answering this statement, put yourself in the interviewer’s shoes. What does that person REALLY want to know about you? Do they want to know that your birthday is April 12 and that your favorite color is purple? Of course not. Do they want to know that you have a bachelor’s degree in marketing and have eight years of sales experience? Absolutely. You must be careful when answering these questions. First, think of how this would sound: My name is Heather and I have a 7-year old son. I am very actively involved in his school and try to volunteer as much as possible. What does the potential employer hear? The interviewer hears the following: My name is Heather. And, by the way, I may miss a lot of work because I do a ton of volunteering at my son’s school. This means I may miss important work deadlines and, quite possibly, may not be able to work overtime when you need me to do so. I couldn’t be more proud to be a mother to a wonderful son, but this is not something I discuss as the starting point during an interview. My focus is on professional accomplishments, educational background, and business expertise. To avoid this scenario, stay with job-related information and have a brief 30-60 second introduction ready-to-go when you enter the interview. Also, DO NOT ask the employer the following: “Well, what do you want to know about me?” This shows that you are unsure of yourself and your strengths. Here are four tips to help you plan your response: Employers are looking for confidence Do not ask them what they want to hear or what they would like to know Give a brief overview of why you have applied for this particular job Stay with job-related information as much as possible Prepare your reponse to this all-important question carefully. As the first statement during an interview, your response to this statement is going to set the tone for the rest of the interview process. Prepare, plan, and develop a productive response to this question in order to shine a light on your strengths and help you land that dream job.

Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom An Insiders Guide to the Hows and Whys of LinkedIn

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom An Insider's Guide to the Hows and Whys of LinkedIn LinkedIn has become an integral part of our professional lives. I hear a lot about the site from careeradvisers, but when I really want to learn what’s going on, Iturn to the folks making things happen at LinkedIn’s Bay Area headquarters I chatted with Crystal Braswell, a manager of corporate communications and also a member of DeVry University’sCareer Advisory Board. Here’s what she had to tell us. What are the biggest mistakes you see people making on LinkedIn? The biggest mistake would be not completing your profile. Simple changes like adding a profile photo or summary section can make a huge difference. We know thatprofiles witha photo are 14 times more likely to be viewed than those without one, and a complete summary and experience section that includes relevant keywords will make iteasier for other professionals to find you. Sometimes the best opportunities â€" from a dream job to speaking, mentorship and skilled volunteer positionsâ€"appear when you aren’t even looking. In fact, only 20 percent of jobs come from submitting an application for a job posting. The rest come throughnetworking. [Read later:5 Networking Tips You Havent Heard] Now, if you’ve taken the time to complete your profile, make sure you’re also giving people a sense of what you do AND who you are. What have you accomplished? Are there any hobbies that are relevant to your profession? Have you volunteered with any nonprofits in your community? Make sure it’s all on your profile. This stuff matters, and it’s what elevates your profile, transforming it into a rich portfolio that paints a complete picture of you as a professional. You never know what little tidbit might push you out in front. Hmm, now I think I need to revise my headline. What’s yours? I say I’m a “tech geek and PR pro leading LinkedIn’s higher education and content initiatives.” It’s more interesting than just using my job title and lets mypersonalityshow through at the start. What’s the most interesting use of LinkedInyou’veheard about recently? One of my favorite recent stories came from someone who found her dream job at a media outlet. After finding and applying for the job, she took to LinkedIn to find the recruiter hiring for the role, and then used “Whose Viewed Your Profile?” to get that recruiter’s attention and land an interview. She then turned the online networking opportunity into an in-person one, connecting with a senior producer at the outlet and locking in 30 minutes to talk to her. She used LinkedIn in all the right ways, and it paid off for her! For the rest of Crystals great advice, have a look at the Intuit Fast Track blog.

2017 Content Marketing Trends

2017 Content Marketing Trends As the world hurtles forward into the Digital Age, content marketing has become increasingly important when it comes to promotion. Staying on top in such a dynamic and ever-evolving industry can be difficult to say the least. With the aim of the game to stay original, fresh and relevant, it would be a good idea to keep on top of the latest trends in order to capitalize. The team at Yoma, a Liverpool based digital marketing agency, have compiled a list of content marketing trends that are bound to be useful in 2017.   Heres a helping hand to anybody that wants to stay ahead of the curve. Create a content marketing plan We cannot stress this enough.   Adopt a content marketing strategy and your campaigns are much more likely to be successful. Having a documented plan will effectively guide your content team towards the goals they wish to achieve. If something isn’t working, you won’t have to sit there scratching your head.   Instead, you can point to something within that strategy and alter it. Facebook Twitter Everyone and their grandmother has a Facebook, so why doesn’t your business? Veritable powerhouses when it comes to content sharing. If your company isn’t utilizing social media then you’re missing out on vital opportunities when it comes to content sharing discovery. Let your customers do the work for you. Utilize the visual They say a picture is worth a 1000 words. They’re far more digestible than 1000 words too. Visual storytelling is one of the most effective ways to get your content to land with an audience. Whether it be through pictures or video, you would be best served to find a way to develop your use of visual multimedia in the new year. Get creative with your writing We’ve heard it time and time again about how fresh, original content is best, yet how is it that there is still so much dull content out there stinking up the web? Think to yourself as you’re writing content â€" would I read this? Making easily digestible content that enriches people’s lives is key to success. Creative writing is a skill that’s worth its weight in gold if you can master it. Optimise for mobile The internet receives more traffic from people surfing on their mobile devices than their desktops than ever before. Ask yourself, am I doing everything that I can to provide a good user experience for those accessing my content on their mobile? Spending the time to make sure your content is easily accessible to those using their mobile will pay dividends. Better still, if you have the resources create an app for your company. Remember, it’s content marketing, not content creation Often we write articles, publish them and move on to the next without a second thought. Promoting your content is essential to making sure it gets seen and more importantly motivates action! Repurposing or simply republishing previous content can be a effective time saving tactic and will attract visitors, so long as it is still relevant! Another great way of getting your content out there, is through the use of ‘promoted posts’ on social media. Facebook and Twitter allow you to reach new customers, by using demographic targeting tools and analysing what works best for your audience. If you’ve spent enough time and effort creating your content and you are confident that this will enrich your customer base, can you afford for it not to be seen? Can you predict any content marketing trends for 2017?
